Private Gardens

At Vane Hill Care Home, our private gardens provide a peaceful outdoor space where residents can relax, enjoy nature and spend time in the fresh air. The gardens, patios and vegetable allotments are carefully maintained and offer a safe, welcoming environment throughout the year. Some residents enjoy gardening and growing vegetables to be used in our kitchen, while others prefer to sit quietly, take in the surroundings or spend time with family and friends outdoors. These outdoor spaces are an important part of daily life, providing comfort, enjoyment and a connection to the natural world.

A Sensory Space

For people living with alcohol related brain damage or Korsakoff’s syndrome, access to outdoor space can play an important role in supporting wellbeing and quality of life. The gardens provide gentle sensory stimulation through changing seasons, colours, scents and natural sounds, helping residents feel calm and engaged with their surroundings.

Gardening activities can also encourage movement, support familiar routines and offer opportunities to maintain practical skills and independence. Whether actively tending plants or simply enjoying a quiet moment outdoors, residents can experience the benefits of nature in a way that suits their individual needs and preferences.

The gardens are an extension of the warm and supportive community at Vane Hill. During the summer months, outdoor gatherings, barbecues and social events bring residents together to enjoy shared experiences in a relaxed setting.

Alongside our communal lounges, dining areas, activities programme, games room and comfortable bedrooms, the gardens help create a positive environment where residents can feel connected, valued and at ease. Together, these spaces support meaningful daily experiences and contribute to a home where people can live with dignity, purpose and a sense of belonging.
